Gorp really stands for “Good old raisins and peanuts,” but we never let that stop us from adding to the mix.
My children lived on gorp when they were little. It went everywhere with us. In the car, in lunch boxes, camping, baseball games and dance recitals.
My children were also in charge of putting the gorp together. We put all the ingredients on the kitchen table and my daughter would take over as head chef, telling my son what to do. When they were done, we would have a big bowl of gorp and a slightly bigger mess. Fortunately, it was always an easy clean up.I still have the enormous bowl that we would make and store it in.
They knew that they could always reach in and scoop out some gorp, without asking, to tide them over until dinner.
The mix has changed very little since they were small. We would try new add ins from time to time, but we always seemed to go back to this tried and true version.
No cooking required, just measure, mix and store – it is the perfect snack to always have around.
