One of the things that was a staple in my cupboard prior to going gluten free was a very well known brand of Onion Soup Mix. I used that in so many recipes, it just made my life easier. Tear open a package and sprinkle it on pot roast with some tomato paste and it was, voilà, delicious! It was also the secret ingredient in my famous brisket recipe. That became very problematic for me because in my family, success is all about how well you make a brisket. Forget about careers or things like that, it is all about the brisket. Up until going gluten free, onion soup mix made the recipe.
This is a great recipe for onion soup mix, however, the one thing that is not in the recipe is beef bullion. Every recipe I have read calls for bullion and I have had a difficult time finding decent bullion that is gluten free. So, you need to use some kind of beef stock or bullion when using the recipe for roasts and briskets etc. It is delicious as-is, just as a seasoning. For soup, add beef, chicken or vegetable stock and add the soup mix to your taste. The recipe makes 1 cup, the equivalent to 2 packages of onion soup mix.
